Father William Bush of the Catholic Diocese of Lexington passed away on September 2, 2025, in Lexington, Kentucky.
A graduate of St. Catherine Academy and Lexington Latin School, he attended St. Paul Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. Father Bush was ordained to the priesthood on June 9, 1962, by the Most Reverend Richard Ackerman, Bishop of Covington, Kentucky.
Father Bush’s pastoral service stretched from his ordination year through 2019, when he retired from St. Luke Catholic Church in Nicholasville. He served at several other parishes, most notably Saint Peter’s in Lexington and Annunciation in Paris. He also served in education ministry and served diligently on many Diocesan boards through the years.
Father Bush set an early example for Father Dan Noll, now Vicar General of the Catholic Diocese of Lexington.
“I was blessed to have Father Bush as a mentor when I was a deacon assigned to Saint Peter’s in Lexington in 1975 while he was parochial vicar there,” Father Noll said. “He was a wonderful mentor, teaching me how to deal respectfully with the poor who came to the door, giving me a good example of leading continuing formation for the laity in preparation for the new Rite of Penance, and being very personally kind to me. He set me on the right path to being a priest, and I know that he has inspired many other people since then.”
A visitation is at Milward-Man O’War, 1509 Trent Boulevard, Lexington, from 4-8 pm on Wednesday, September 10, with Rosary at 7:30 pm. A prayer service will be held at 6pm on Thursday, September 11, at St. Luke Church, 304 South Main Street, Nicholasville, and the church will remain open throughout the night for prayer and visitation. There will be a morning prayer service at 8am on Friday, September 12, at St. Luke Church prior to the Mass of Resurrection at 10am. The burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Lexington, in the Hannon-Bush Family Lot.
