"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope." ~ Romans 15:13
Calvary Cemetery provides the sanctuary to house all souls seeking God’s refuge. According to Vatican II, “Funeral rites should express more clearly the paschal character of Christian death.” Burial in a Catholic cemetery is an integral part of the ritual expression of the Paschal Mystery. The church only consecrates two places as Holy Ground: a catholic church for divine worship and a catholic cemetery for eternal peace, which is consecrated as “resurrection gardens.”Â
The design and decor of Catholic cemeteries follow a resurrection motif. Like the Church itself, they breathe hope in the merciful love of the Father and the redeeming resurrection of Christ. As expressed by the Reverend Donald G. McCarthy in Pastoral Life and the Catholic Cemetery, “The cemetery is the Church’s waiting room for the final resurrection in and through Christ: the Gate of Heaven.” The choice to be interred in a Catholic cemetery alongside fellow believers also represents a final and continuing profession of faith in God and of membership in the Catholic Church.
Interment options
There are typically two ways that interment arrangements are made. Some people, typically in their middle years, make interment arrangements in advance of need, a practice commonly called pre-need. Others wait until a death occurs and will make one of two decisions: either purchase a single interment space to accommodate the deceased or purchase two spaces to accommodate the deceased and the future need of the spouse. With so many decisions having to be made at the time of a death, it is always wise to make interment decisions and reserve spaces well in advance.Â

Calvary Cemetery has partnered with Coolmore-Ashford Stud Horse Farm to coordinate and manage our trees that have resided on site for over a hundred years. To maintain their history as much as rich presence, we have initiated “Celebrate-A-Tree” campaign to continue the restoration of our cemetery’s natural beauty. You can help today by donating to our trees in need and we’ll tag your name to the tree for your contribution.
