Immigration Resources

Emily Jones, Immigration Attorney

Hello Diocese of Lexington Clergy and Parish Staff

My name is Emily Jones and I am the Legal Director of New Americans Initiative.

Many throughout our community and country are filled with fear and uncertainty at this time. While faith is one antidote to fear, knowledge and preparedness can go a long way in helping our community members feel valued and cared for.

That’s why the Diocese of Lexington has partnered with New Americans Initiative to create these video trainings for Clergy, Parishes, and Parishioners so that throughout the Diocese everyone understands their Rights and the Rights of your Congregation when it comes to interacting with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, otherwise known as ICE or the immigration police.

Our goal with these video trainings is to give you the tools you need to make a personalized action plan for your community as you have been instructed by Bishop John Stowe in the 2019 Letter introducing the Hispanic Ministry Deanery Plan and Structure. These videos will explain in easy to understand terms, the relevant constitutional provisions, federal laws and policies, and your rights as clergy and parish staff. It will also offer you ideas for how to structure your own parish action plan and how to best support and encourage preparedness amongst your congregation.
