St. George

St. George was a Roman soldier of Greek origin, born in the late 3rd century, who became renowned for his courage, faith, and steadfast devotion to Christ. Serving in the Roman army, he witnessed the persecution of Christians under Emperor Diocletian. Despite the risks, George openly professed his Christian faith, refusing to renounce it even when pressured by the authorities. His courage and unwavering fidelity to Christ eventually led to his arrest, torture, and martyrdom around the year 303.

Legend has long celebrated St. George for his defense of the innocent and his symbolic battle against evil, famously depicted as slaying a dragon to rescue a town and a princess. While this story emphasizes his role as a heroic protector, it points to a deeper truth: George’s life exemplifies the victory of faith, courage, and virtue over sin and fear. Celebrated on April 23, his feast day honors both his heroic martyrdom and his example of steadfast faith, inspiring Christians to remain courageous and loyal to God even in the face of danger.
