Saint Bartholomew, Apostle
Bartholomew is listed among the Twelve Apostles in the Synoptic Gospels and Acts. He is often identified with Nathanael in John’s Gospel, the man from Cana whom Jesus praises as “an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.” His call comes through Philip, showing the ordinary chain of personal witness by which people are brought to Christ.
Traditions about Bartholomew’s missionary work vary, placing him in regions such as Armenia, Mesopotamia, Persia, or India. He is traditionally remembered as a martyr, often depicted with the instrument of his suffering. His feast honors the apostolic foundations of the Church and calls believers to integrity, honesty, and readiness to follow Christ wherever he sends them.
Prayer: Saint Bartholomew, pray that we may follow Christ with honesty, purity of heart, and faithful witness. Amen.
