On Wednesday, April 30th, several St. Leo students and their teachers were honored with awards for the Woodford County conservation, art and writing contest.  Alex Griffin in grade 6 won the overall prize for writing  and Mr. Pults, won the overall prize as the writing teacher. Emily Boggess won second place in writing.  Blake Bowling won third place and honorable mention for her essay. Harper Breitenstein won the overall prize for art in 5th grade.  Frances Ciannello, Gene Bratcher, Sabrina Kunwar, and Harper Wilson all won prizes in art. Each student was asked to read and study about some of the issues that are facing Kentucky forests. They did this under the guidance of science teacher, Tracy Borth. Then students were asked to either write an essay based on what they learned or to make a piece of art based Kentucky forest conservation. Each of the winners was honored at a banquet, and received a T-shirt, a monetary prize and community recognition. The Woodford County Conservation Contest helps us to support Goal 7 of the Laudato Si Action Plan, “Community Involvement and Participatory Action.” as well as Goal 5, “Ecological Education.” We are very proud of our young scientists, writers, and artists!
