Office of the Permanent Diaconate

Deacons of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Lexington are called to be prayerful servants, ordained to share in the mission of Jesus Christ through lives of charity, justice, and service. In communion with the Bishop, and with the support of our families, parishes, and communities, we dedicate ourselves to building up the People of God in the Church and in the world.

Through ordination, deacons are configured to Christ the Servant. We are called to proclaim the Gospel, assist at the altar, and serve those most in need, while also witnessing to Christ in our homes, workplaces, neighborhoods, and local communities. Our ministry reminds the Church that all baptized people are called to lives of service, compassion, and faithful discipleship.

As deacons, we strive to reflect the love of Jesus Christ in our daily lives and ministries. We accept the call to be a visible sign of justice, peace, mercy, and hope among the People of God, especially for the poor, the vulnerable, and those on the margins.

As deacons, we dedicate ourselves to:

Holding a shared sense of identity, mission, and service within the Diocese of Lexington.

Building a community of faith, prayer, fraternity, and mutual accountability.

Carrying out our ministries in a Gospel spirit of justice, compassion, humility, and mercy.

Serving as instruments of healing, reconciliation, and meaningful change in our communities and in the wider world.

Making the Church present in our workplaces, neighborhoods, parishes, and daily encounters.

Through our ministry of Word, liturgy, and charity, we seek to serve Christ by serving His people.
