Members present: Joe Groves, John Mitchell, Ed Shuman, Jill Heink (new), Jennifer Longworth (new).
Meeting opened with a prayer asking the intercession of St. Isidore, patron saint of the internet.
John had attached his laptop to his TV so the committee could view the MQ Web Site throughout discussions.
John distributed a Style Guide that listed fonts, size, color, etc. to keep in mind when editing or adding headings, text, etc. to MQ web pages. Joe noted that the pages utilizing several colors were somewhat distracting, and suggested that the Style Guide include staying with the navy blue font that matches the blue in the heading.
Using the Style Guide, John will updated the evangelization page, communication page, and the parish council page. Tony Kernan will take all of Parish Life. Joe will continue to work through the remaining pages. John will connect with Sr. Mary Ann Warner, the interim Formation Director, and see what her needs are for the Adult Education and Formation pages.
The committee discussed starting up a Facebook page for Mary Queen Parish. Mary Queen School and Mary Queen PTO already have pages. Jennifer offered to help set up and administer a parish FB page. She has experience in administering Real Life Radio’s FB page. The committee looked at the Admin panel that Jennifer pulled up for Real Life radio. She showed how information can be set up in the About section, how posts are managed, and how Real Life’s FB page is synchronized with the Real Life Twitter account. The committee also looked at other parishes’ FB pages, including Christ the King’s and St. Paul’s. FB can be especially helpful with publicizing events, both through announcements and reminders. FB can also point parishioners to the web site, which will still be the main repository for forms, access to the online bulletin and newsletter, organizational activities and minutes, and so on.
Jennifer and Jill will prepare information to present to Fr. Dan about starting up a parish page and to discuss guidelines. Jill will check with Otto Piechowski, who had expressed interest in helping with social media.
Meeting closed with prayer.
