Continuing Education: Introduction to the Book of Blessings----Discussion of value of blessings and role of Deacon when priest present. To continue ‘Blessing Sunday’ with the deacons.
Old Business:
Review All Saints and All Souls Day: Attendance fair/good--8:15 about 45 and 5 came forward for a cross. Other Masses -- 270 people came. Parishioners encouraged to sit only in center sections, seemed to enhance the feel of community. 7pm poorly attended--70-75 people, though it was Halloween that evening.
Suggestion: Try to encourage parishioners to move more toward the center seating at all masses, to bring people closer and concentrate the group.
Hispanic mass at 7pm on Sat had low attendance. Possible competition was a local benefit for natural disasters in Mexico coincided at same time.
What is the feedback from efforts to lead parishioners to a greater appreciation of God’s Word?
Silences, pauses after reading are occurring. Noted that a few parishioners are still reading Missals. Most lectors remember to let canter say “the Word of God”. Allot of people coming in at the alleluia, after waiting because they were late. Ushers continue to place signs in lobby to wait, open after 2nd reading. Committee group noted minimal feedback from parishioners.
How to introduce more hospitality in the liturgy?
How to encourage people to sit in front? One Suggestion: deacons encourage people to move forward.

New Business:
· Review Advent Christmas Committee Minutes Oct 15, 2013 (attached): modifications--
Penance service –need to communicate to parishioners. Confessions with Bishop before holy hour will impact attendance at Penance service.
Suggested that we consider an earlier time -- 4pm—better for older people, but not working people. Action: Kristy to write a bulletin insert about penance service
Advent wreath location same place as last year. Committee agreed OK to do decorations the Wed before Thanksgiving.
Chant the gospel Christmas Eve and Day
Decorations for Christmas Mass — last year doing decorating at Posada did not flow well. Lisa will decide when to decorate and notify committee.
· Review Special Masses and Celebrations Advent/Christmas 2013 (attached):--
· Dec. 11, Vigil for the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, such a beautiful event!--- Last year a non-Hispanic group took one hour and prayed rosary and sang between decades; disappointed in low turnout non-Hispanic parishioners. How to encourage non –Hispanic parishioners?
· Feast of Christ the King November 24th commission of EM 4, 11, 5:30. 1st communion 8;15
· Thanksgiving Day Nov 28th @ 10:00 – Liturgical ministers needed.
· Change hymnals – Tuesday Nov 26 at 1:15—
· Jean/devotions---special pamphlets about how to dress modesty for church were distributed. Committee reviewed. Jean proposed that she talk to devotion ministries, youth and Hispanic groups about possibly using them. Ruth Dixon spearheading idea, Jim Cloud to purchase bundle. Action: committee to review and provide suggestion on use.
· Jean/Devotions—proposal for church to have candles for parishioners to buy, have blessed to take home. Last year people brought their own. Suggestion: Church offer for sale the candles being used in votives, then just replace them. To be decided.
· Spanish mass New Year’s Eve? No action
· Presentation of lord on Sunday this year. Blessing of candles on that day. Feb 2nd
· Christmas banners to be ordered.
· Some holes in children liturgy staffing—will provide as feasible.
· Cara—Food for thought, Does a shorter Easter vigil have value, not all 9 readings. Will more people be inclined to attend? It must start at nautical darkness, not dusk. 1 ½ hrs readings, English/Spanish combination adds time. Would more people come? More hospitable. All committee members must weigh in about this topic.
· Other new business—Action: All committee members will research ideas of how we can be more hospitable.
Fr. Dan’s Remarks: Reserve ambo for reading of scriptures. Other lectern works well for other purposes. But it is essential to encourage all groups to use the lectern.
· December meeting date – next meeting 10th--. Priests unable to attend because of annual celebration that day.
