MQHR Communication Committee Meeting Minutes for March 24, 2014, 7 PM
Unapproved
Those in attendance were Jill Heink (minutes, articles), John Mitchell (LED), Jenny Poole (newsletter), Pat Johnson (library), Joe Groves (web), Laura Saldato (Parish Life). Chairman Ron Wedding has been ill – we include him in our prayer!
The meeting opened at 7:00 PM with the March meeting prayer.
There were no corrections to the minutes from February 2014.
Website/Social Media – Joe reported that the website committee continues to meet one Sunday a month. Members of the committee continue to convert all web items to a consistent style. Links are up for the Lent schedule, to Otto Piechowski’s blog, to the Time and Talent listings, etc. Jenny noted that the latest sign up for Time and Talent only listed “Communication” and did not break out the items, such as newsletter. We will post on Facebook to encourage folks to write articles and submit photos for the newsletter.
CD Rack – Melissa Sloan e-mailed to say that the CD’s have been circulating steadily and she is set to re-stock the rack this month. She also said that someone else collects the money and counts it – we would have to check with the office to find out if the CD’s are breaking even from donations or how much money the parish spends on them.
Info Center/Bulletin Board - Everything is current on the Bulletin Board. The Info Center appears to be neat and tidy. Jill added school brochures from the office to the Info Center. Jenny will talk to Principal Becky Brown about adding school registration forms.
Outdoor Sign – has been kept current.
Library – Pat has added about 35 books to the inventory. She has volunteers lined up to cover the library while she is gone on vacation. Care Notes were delivered very late, but they are now re-stocked. Pat will write an article about Care Notes for the newsletter (at some point!).
Suggestion Box – there were no suggestions, but there were cute drawings by some children, saying how much they love Jesus and MQHR (very sweet).
Newsletter –Jenny sent the newsletter this morning to Diocesan Publications. The deadline for the April issue is April 11. The next newsletter will feature fish fry photos. Jenny will ask Bob Johnson to send some additional photos from the last fish fry so that we can put a “sneak peak” on the Facebook Page.
LED Screen and A/V – A video about Rice Bowl played this month. After Easter we’ll return to slides. John discussed preparing slides that would give funeral information as well as the dates of being born to heavenly life along with the dates of being born to earthly life.
Bulletin – No report Upcoming Events:
Lots of events:
Fish Fries remaining are 3/28, 4/4, 4/11 – attendance will probably drop with folks going out of town on spring break, so we will give an extra push to the fish fries on FB
BUILD meeting – the Nehemiah action meeting is April 8 at Porter Memorial Baptist Church
Parish Penance service – April 9
Holy Hour – April10; Fr. Patrick Fitzsimmons will talk about St. Brendan of Ireland
Triduum – April 17 – 19
Easter – April 20
Night of Angels – May 9; Laura will send photos from the site visit to Jill for the MQ Facebook page
Time and Talent responses – We noted there was no real break out or itemization on the Time and Talent sheets about the type of task within the Communication Committee. Jill will check with Ron about contacting people who checked the basic Communication category.
New Business – Pat asked if sending in a direct response to the mailing for the Diocesan Annual Appeal would get credited to MQHR. Jill, who works for the Diocese, explained that each mailing is coded for parish. By mailing directly to each household, the Diocese ensures that each household has an opportunity to participate in the Appeal. People can drop off their mailed envelope to their parish office, or can mail it directly to the Diocese. People can also fill out their pledge envelope during Response Sunday.
Next Meeting The next meeting is TBA. The third Monday is April 21
