Two services will mark the Installation of Bishop Ronald W. Gainer as the eleventh Bishop of Harrisburg. A Solemn Vespers service and the Mass of Installation. Each will be held at a different location and provide an opportunity for prayers with the Bishop.
The Solemn Vespers service will be held Tuesday, March 18 at 7 p.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Church 6150 Allentown Blvd, Harrisburg. A Mass of Installation will take place on Wednesday, March 19 at 2 p.m. It will be held at St. Patrick Cathedral, 212 State Street, Harrisburg. The Mass will be invitation only.
The eve of the Installation Mass is a significant time for prayer. The Vespers Service will be open to the public and provide the opportunity for faithful to pray with Bishop Gainer who will lead the service. Vespers, also called Evening Prayer, is part of the Liturgy of the Hours, also known as the Divine Office. The service consists of the singing of hymns, psalms, bible readings and prayers. A reception will follow. It is expected that the service will be streamed live on the Diocesan website,www.hbgdiocese.org.
