Mission Statement
Mary, Queen of the Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Elementary (1st - 5th grade) Religious Formation Program seeks to present God to each child as a loving Father who is all knowing, loving, forgiving, and eager to help and listen, and the Creator of all things, but, especially that each and every person is His most loved, special, and unique creation. We hope to nurture each child's faith, help shape their Catholic identity, and instill in them the desire to know and love Jesus so that he or she may more fully answer God's call to holiness.
Elementary Religious Formation (grades 1-5) is a structured religious education program designed to give children an opportunity to come together as “community”, to celebrate God, one another, the world around them, and Jesus, their best friend and teacher, through the Catechism, traditions, devotions, Scripture, Para-Liturgies, “Mission of Love” projects, , Advent and Lenten Penance Services for our 3rd - 5th graders and much more. To complement and reinforce catechesis, the students participate in a variety of enjoyable and Spirit-filled activities, such as group discussion, Church ‘visits’, craft projects, music, puppet ministry, movies, learning prayers, skits/role play, nature walks, parties/ celebrations, games, etc. This is a basic description of the program for anyone who wants to know a little bit more about what we do. However, we are always seeking more volunteers and participants. We need Catechists (age 18 and up) direct the lessons following a complete teacher's manual and syllabus. Classroom Aides help the catechists to teach by taking attendance, 8 handing out materials and other activities as needed. Catechists and Classroom Aides are always needed. Training sessions are held and all materials are provided.
In addition, the children are given opportunities to live out the teachings of Jesus by reaching out to others in need through activities like Operation Rice Bowl during Lent and our “Mission of Love” projects for the needy, making cards for the sick as well as collecting non-perishable food items and clothing.
Catechists (Teachers) age 18 and up direct the lessons following a complete Teachers’ manual and syllabus.
Classroom Aides (Children who have been Confirmed to Adults) help the Catechists by taking attendance, checking homework, making copies, handing out materials, and helping to maintain order in the classroom.
Catechists and Classroom Aides are always needed. Training sessions are held for volunteers and all materials are provided.
All adults (18 yrs. & older) must be Virtus trained before teaching and/or helping in the classroom. This is a policy of the Diocese of Lexington; an endeavor to keep all our children as safe as possible through awareness.
THE CHILDREN’S ADVISORY TEAM (C.A.T.) consists of 6-8 parent and/or teacher representatives. The team meets with the Coordinator of Religious Education several times a year to advise and assist with planning of events for the children and helps with parent recruitment for events, program content evaluation, budget preparation, etc. For questions, please contact Karen Estes at the phone number above. Our doors are always open to any parent who wishes to attend a meeting.
