SUMMARY:Saint Maria Goretti\, Virgin and Martyr
DESCRIPTION:Maria Goretti was born in 1890 in Corinaldo\, Italy\, to a poor farming family. After her father died of malaria\, the family struggled as sharecroppers near Nettuno\, south of Rome. On July 5\, 1902\, at the age of eleven\, Maria was attacked by Alessandro Serenelli and died the next day from her wounds. \nBefore her death\, Maria forgave Alessandro\, who later experienced conversion in prison. She was canonized by Pope Pius XII in 1950 before a vast crowd that included her mother and\, eventually\, her repentant attacker. Her story must be told with care: it is not a romanticized story of violence\, but a witness to the dignity of the vulnerable\, the horror of sin\, the power of forgiveness\, and the Church’s call to protect children and the innocent. \nPrayer: Saint Maria Goretti\, pray for the protection of the innocent and help us choose mercy without abandoning justice. Amen.

SUMMARY:Saint Benedict\, Abbot
DESCRIPTION:Benedict was born around 480 in Nursia\, Italy\, as the Western Roman Empire had recently collapsed and Europe was entering a period of political fragmentation. After studying in Rome\, he withdrew to a cave near Subiaco\, seeking a life of prayer and discipline. His reputation for holiness drew disciples\, and he eventually founded the great monastery of Monte Cassino around 529. \nThe Rule of Saint Benedict became one of the most influential spiritual texts in Christian history\, shaping Western monasticism through stability\, obedience\, humility\, prayer\, and work. Benedict died around 547\, but his vision helped preserve learning\, agriculture\, liturgy\, and Christian community through centuries of upheaval. His feast reminds us that holiness is built through daily rhythms\, not spiritual drama alone. \nPrayer: Saint Benedict\, teach us to seek God first\, pray faithfully\, work humbly\, and live with disciplined love. Amen.
