SUMMARY:Saint Paulinus of Nola\, Bishop
DESCRIPTION:Paulinus was born around 354 in Bordeaux\, in Roman Gaul\, into one of the empire’s wealthy senatorial families. Educated in classical rhetoric and poetry\, he served as a public official before undergoing a gradual conversion influenced by Christian friends and the growing monastic spirit of the late fourth century. With his wife Therasia\, he chose a life of simplicity\, charity\, and devotion. \nAfter the death of their child\, Paulinus and Therasia moved toward a more radical Christian life\, eventually settling near the shrine of Saint Felix at Nola in southern Italy. Paulinus became bishop of Nola around 409 and served during a period of imperial weakness and barbarian pressure in the West. His writings\, friendships with Augustine\, Ambrose\, and Jerome\, and generosity to the poor make him a witness to Christian conversion from privilege to service. \nPrayer: Saint Paulinus of Nola\, help us give generously\, serve humbly\, and place Christ above every earthly treasure. Amen.

SUMMARY:Saint John the Baptist
DESCRIPTION:The birth of John the Baptist is described in Luke’s Gospel\, set in Judea during the final years before the public ministry of Jesus. John was born to Zechariah\, a priest of the Temple\, and Elizabeth\, a relative of Mary. His birth was announced by the angel Gabriel\, and his name broke expectation because it signaled a divine mission rather than a family custom. \nThe Church celebrates John’s birth on June 24\, six months before Christmas\, reflecting Luke 1:36\, where Elizabeth is in her sixth month when the Annunciation is made to Mary. John became the voice crying in the wilderness\, preaching repentance near the Jordan River and preparing Israel for the Messiah. His solemnity reminds us that every Christian vocation is meant to point beyond the self toward Christ. \nPrayer: Saint John the Baptist\, prepare our hearts for the Lord and teach us to decrease so that Christ may increase. Amen.
