SUMMARY:Holy Saturday (Easter Vigil)
DESCRIPTION:Holy Saturday is the day of waiting and quiet reflection\, commemorating the time when Jesus’ body lay in the tomb following His crucifixion. It is a day of mourning for the death of Christ\, but also a day of hope\, as the faithful remember that God’s plan of salvation was already at work even in apparent silence. Scripture recalls the burial: “Joseph took the body\, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth\, and laid it in his own new tomb\, which he had cut out of the rock” (Matthew 27:59–60). The disciples and followers of Jesus watched in sorrow\, uncertain of what the future held\, while God prepared the victory of the Resurrection. \nThe Easter Vigil celebrated on Holy Saturday night is the Church’s most solemn celebration\, marking the transition from mourning to joy. During the vigil\, the Paschal candle is lit\, symbolizing the light of Christ breaking through the darkness of sin and death. The readings recount salvation history\, from creation and the Exodus to the prophecies of the Messiah\, culminating in the joy of Christ’s Resurrection. Holy Saturday reminds the faithful that God’s work is often hidden\, and His promises are fulfilled in His perfect timing\, inviting believers to trust in His love even in moments of uncertainty. \nPrayer:Lord Jesus\, on this Holy Saturday\, You rested in the tomb\, and yet Your victory over death was already at work. Help us to trust in Your timing\, to keep hope alive in moments of darkness\, and to prepare our hearts to rejoice in Your Resurrection.
