SUMMARY:Saint John Vianney\, Priest
DESCRIPTION:John Vianney was born in 1786 near Lyon\, France\, just before the French Revolution disrupted Catholic life. He struggled academically and nearly failed in preparation for priesthood\, but was ordained in 1815 after the Church began rebuilding after years of persecution\, secularization\, and social upheaval. In 1818 he was sent to the obscure village of Ars. \nThrough prayer\, preaching\, fasting\, and long hours in the confessional\, the Cure of Ars transformed the parish and drew pilgrims from across France. He died in 1859 and was canonized in 1925; Pope Pius XI named him patron of parish priests in 1929. His feast reminds us that holiness\, not prestige\, renews parishes. \nPrayer: Saint John Vianney\, pray for priests\, seminarians\, and parishes\, that they may be renewed in holiness and zeal. Amen.
