Evangelization Committee Meeting Minutes
April 16, 2015
Present: Lee McGrath, John Mitchell, John Larmour, Carolyn Large, Jeanne Singh, Kathy Meikel
Lee McGrath opened the meeting by leading the Committee in praying the “Prayer for the New Evangelization.” Jeanne Singh read the scripture reading from Romans 10:13-15.
PERSONAL EVANGELIZATION STORIES:
Lee then asked if anyone had any personal evangelization stories they would like to share.
John Mitchell shared a story about an experience he had with reaching out to someone , asking for help, and, in the process, he himself was evangelized.
Jeanne Singh shared about blocks that she had experienced even in her own native country of Burma and how through recent experiences she felt she was ready to work on these blocks. She also shared experiences of meeting and sharing with members of the MQ Hispanic community through her rosary ministry and joining with them for special occasions and celebrations such as the most recent Cenacle of Divine Mercy.
Lee McGrath shared how she had been hoping that a family member who has not been attending church would join her during the holiday. This did not happen and Lee related that someone had said to her: “Just because I don’t see it happening doesn’t mean God is not working.”
MANY FACES IN GOD’S HOUSE-Update of April 9th meeting:
Carolyn shared that she had attended the April 9th meeting, that she enjoyed it. She said the group joined in singing and dancing, and divided up into small groups where those attending got to know each other on a more personal and intimate level. Some of the participants were given names of other parishioners to contact and invite to the “Many Faces” meetings and to the Pentecost Picnic on Sunday, May 24th.
Lee reviewed the dates of the next meetings of April 30, May 7 and May 14 and encouraged those who could to attend and to invite others.
CATHOLICS RETURNING HOME:
Lee shared that the Subcommittee (Lee McGrath, Becky Estep, John Larmour) were working on a proposal for a “Catholics Returning Home” program at Mary Queen to submit to Father Dan. Lee will send the Committee an update for review on what the Subcommittee proposes before sending the proposal to Fr. Dan. Lee said she had not yet heard back from Dcn. Tim and would follow up on contact with him.
COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP-HOW TO ATTRACT AND INVITE NEW MEMBERS:
Lee asked for suggestions on how to attract new members to the Evangelization Committee. Discussion and suggestions followed:
? John Larmour suggested creation of some type of brochure such as a bi-fold or tri-fold with information about the Evangelization Committee.
? Carolyn will contact Angie Allen and asked for names of college students who might be interested.
? Suggestion to contact members who have just come through the RCIA program. Lee will contact John Hayes, leader of RCIA, and get names and contact information and members of the Evangelization Committee will make contact with these individuals.
NEW BUSINESS: No new business.
Next Evangelization Committee Meeting: May 21, 2015
The meeting adjourned with the Lord’s Prayer, Hail Mary, Glory Be.
