MQHR Communication Committee Meeting Minutes for April 29, 2013, 7 PM
Unapproved
Those in attendance were Ron Wedding (Chair) Jill Heink (minutes, articles), John Mitchell (LED board, website advisor), Laura Hack (Formation), Pat Johnson (Library), Jenny Poole (newsletter), Jane Tucker (Bulletin)
The meeting opened at 7:09 PM with a prayer.
There were no corrections to the minutes from March.
Website – John distributed the minutes from the Website Committee meeting of 4/28 on behalf of Joe, who could not make this re-scheduled meeting). The Website committee continues to migrate information to the new site, while pointing to the old Catholic Web site from the MQHR directory page. The committee’s timeline estimates that the new website should be available around July 14.
Suggestion Box – No suggestions this month.
CD Rack – CD’s continue to sell well – Laura did not have the totals for this month. The ushers empty the rack money box after 5:30 PM Mass on Sunday and put the proceeds in a marked bag.
Info Center/Bulletin Board – Jenny’s supply of pens, pencils and crayons disappeared this past month. Jane said that some pencils and pens were used for the Annual Appeal promotions. Laura said Jenny could get a key for the drawer with a lock on it. Everything is current on the Bulletin Board.
Library – Pat reported that the basket in the library that held holy cards, rosaries, etc. was taken (the holy cards and other items were left on the shelf). She continues to send out overdue notices, and she recently got back a book that had been checked out 7 years ago. She and Kathy Marra continue to catalogue book donations. Pat brought the Care Notes order form to show us the various CN selections. Ron suggested she show the list to Angie Allen, our youth minister, to see if she might be interested in having some of the Care Notes for Teens available.
Newsletter – next deadline is May 10 for the June newsletter. The newsletter is off for July and August. Jenny anticipates she will have plenty of photos for the June issue from Dreamstakes, First Communion, School events, etc.
LED Screen and A/V – John asked for feedback about the Diocesan Annual Appeal Slideshow which was presented on the left wall behind the altar after each Mass over the weekend of April 27-28 (except at the 1 PM Spanish Mass). John said that after the 4 PM Saturday Mass, people told him the sound was too loud so he started at a lower volume at the other Masses. Jill was in front at 8:15 and heard/saw the slideshow OK. Several people at the 11 AM Mass said it was hard to see and hear; they suggested the lights should have been turned down. John noted that it is hard to get an accurate sound adjustment before Mass because the sound dynamics change as people fill up the church.
Outdoor Sign – board updates continue to go well.
Bulletin – The move to color is still some ways off. Diocesan Publishing has not gotten back to Jane with any response. She does not have Publisher installed on her computer. She explained that for the office staff, changing the bulletin is way behind other priorities that need immediate attention.
