LEXINGTON — Michael Bayer has been appointed director of Youth, Young Adult and Campus Ministry of the Catholic Diocese of Lexington, effective Aug. 16. Bayer brings over 15 years of professional ministerial experience, having served as a lay pastoral associate, parish youth minister, university campus minister and diocesan director for youth and young adults.
“Michael’s energy and vision will be greatly beneficial in our efforts as a Church to embody humble, authentic living of the Gospel to a generation that needs such witnesses,” said Bishop John Stowe, OFM Conv. of Lexington, who made the appointment. “When youth and young adults are rejecting religious belief and affiliation at precipitous rates, it’s all the more urgent that the Church embrace a model that is aware of their actual concerns and attentive to people most at the periphery.”
A graduate of Catholic elementary and secondary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, he received degrees in theology from Georgetown University and The Graduate Theological Union at Berkeley. He is a past member of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ National Advisory Team for Young Adult Ministry and has been published in America Magazine, Catholic News Service, and the Washington Post.
