New Business and Updates:
The meeting began at 5:30 pm.
Father Dan requested that John Mitchell describe a project which had been proposed to the Evangelization Committee by Leo Brown. Leo suggested that Mary Queen and Good Shepherd serve as test parishes for the rollout of this project during Lent the 2014. The premise is that (according to some survey) 70% of Mass that attendees don’t have a sufficient understanding of them as we’re church teachings. His proposal was that during lent those 2014, parishioners who felt they needed better instruction would be dismissed prior to the celebration of the Eucharist for discipleship training. Leo discussed this with Bishop Gainer, who stated that he was willing to give dispensation from Eucharistic attendance during the six weeks of Lent for those who choose to participate. But meeting different to discuss this with representatives from Mary Queen and Good Shepherd was scheduled for Monday December 9. After some considerable discussion of the pros and cons of such a program, Andrew Moore, John Mitchell, Cara Johnson, Phil Heink, and Father Dan volunteered to attend the December 9 meeting with representatives from Real Life Radio and Good Shepherd parish. The council indicated that desire to serve at our parish before agreeing to participate in such a program.
A motion to set up a task force to further study the book Rebuilt by White and Corcoran was passed by consensus.
We had a discussion of a live webinar conducted the previous day on the topic: Tools for Rebuilding, also by the White and Corcoran. Instructions for accessing the recorded version of that webinar were to be sent to the council by Phil Heink.
Walter Leachman reported that 441 financial pledges have been returned to date totaling $1,411k ($3200/pledge). This represents a 30% increase over last year. He also reported that thank you notes were to be sent to all parishioners who are using electronic giving.
Andrew Moore was introduced as a new member representing the parish life committee.
