Dear Friend in Christ,
This Year of Our Lord, 2013, is a very significant one for us in the Catholic Diocese of Lexington. Together we celebrate the Twenty-fifth Anniversary of the establishment of our local church by Blessed John Paul II and in union with the Universal Church we observe the Year of Faith, inaugurated by Pope Benedict XVI on October 11, 2012, the Fiftieth Anniversary of the opening of Vatican Council II. As the family of parishes and diverse ministries, our diocese takes time for reflection, thanksgiving and celebration.
In his letter announcing the Year of Faith, our Holy Father defined this time as "a summons to an authentic and renewed conversion to the Lord, the one Savior of the world." As we journey together through this grace-filled year, may the love of Christ fill our hearts and lead us to share the Gospel freely and fervently by our lives of authentic faith.
Let us rejoice in God's goodness to us throughout this Anniversary Year, this Year of Faith.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Ronald W. Gainer
Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Lexington
